H.W. pGLO Transformation Lab Background Information:  (Part I and II)
Part I: Complete the web activity below.

Visit http://www.dnalc.org/resources/animations/index.html and access the two Transformation animations in the "biology animation library" section.

As you step through the animations, answer the questions below:
Describe Cohen & Boyer's Experiment.
1. Include a description of pSC101 & pSC102
2. Which restriction enzyme was used? Identify its restriction/recognition sequence.
3. What is the role of DNA ligase?
4. Use the Transformation 2 animation to draw a picture of the process of making the bacterial cells competent. Include nicely drawn pictures and words!
5. Describe the two methods that Cohen & Boyer used to select for transformed bacteria. Include a picture that summarizes each method. (note: this is in the 1st Transformation animation)

Part II: Then, open this attached document and read through the background information for the lab we will complete on Wednesday/Thursday.  On your own paper, as you read, write down 3-4 important points (use bullet points, incomplete sentences are okay) per paragraph.  Additionally, redraw the bacterial cell from the background and label all of the parts as they are in the picture.
