1/9/14

1. Review protein synthesis
2. Connect the dots...DNA to Disease

H.W. Research the gene and the protein that your gene codes for based on the DNA strand that you picked in class today.  Research the following items:

Information about your protein:
1.      Go to  http://ghr.nlm.nih.gov/ and click on  the box labeled genes. Find your gene using the index provided.
2.      Use the information to answer questions below.
a.       What is the official name of the gene?
b.      When was the gene discovered and by whom? (You may have to go to additional resources to find this.)
c.       What is the normal function of the gene?
d.      How are changes in the gene related to health conditions?  Name and use your own words to describe the health condition(s) in a brief paragraph.  Use sufficient detail to describe how mutations in this gene result in the health impairments.
e.       Where is the gene located? (chromosome number)
f.       Find and print a 3 dimensional picture of your protein and bring it to class.

AND work on your Create your own gene poster (due on Monday).  Make this look pretty : )
