11/22/13

1. Review the light reaction
2. Light Dependent Reaction Skit

H.W. Complete side 4 of your C.R. and P. brochure.  Use these new instructions for side 4: (due 12/2)
Side 4: Photosynthesis Lab Page: .
1. Title: How is Carbon Cycled?
2. Background information: From your lab worksheet in the box at the top - All life on earth is solar powered: Include this statement along with your drawing of the Carbon cycle we did for warm up. Try to do one like (not exactly the same as) the one we looked at in class with the cow, the tree and the factories. Include an autotroph, a heterotroph, the energy source driving the cycle and any non – living things that may alter the balance of the carbon cycle.
3. Procedure: Illustrate the procedure by drawing four test tubes along with their contents and their exposure to light or not. Include a quick blurb about how phenol red is used to indicate carbon dioxide levels.
4. Data: You may illustrate the results as we did in class with drawings of the tubes, presence or absence of light and the final color of phenol red after 24 hours OR you may include a data table that provides the same information (in written text); like the one you already designed.
5. Conclusion: As discussed in class, explain why the phenol red changed the color it did after 24 hours for each test tube. Explain in terms of the action of respiration and photosynthesis.
6. Lastly: We answered the question in the title of this lab, "how is carbon cycled?" by saying that the driving forces behind the carbon cycle are 1) energy from the sun and 2) the interaction between autotrophs and heterotrophs. Support this answer by using EVIDENCE from your lab.

The entire brochure (all sides) will be due on 12/4
