H.W. DUE TOMORROW:  Complete the following for your lab:
Analysis:
1. Make an ACCURATE (use a ruler!) drawing of your results. Be sure to label each sample (A-F, as well as the person’s name) as well as the positive and negative sides of the gel.
2. Complete the table on your answer sheet based on your results:

3. Explain why the carriers genetic profile appeared the way it did.
4. Using the lab results for Ava and Ava’s grandmother on her father’s side, determine Ava’s father’s genotype and phenotype for the sickle cell trait. Explain how you came to this conclusion.
5. Identify and describe two other applications of gel electrophoresis.

1. LAB: The crooked cell- Using gel electrophoresis to determine the genotypes of Ava's family
During the 20 minutes your DNA is "running":  Finish the Hypothesis for the lab by creating a pedigree and predicting the genotypes of Ava and her tested family members.  In addition, using the picture from page 2 of the background information (under "Step 3: DNA digestion"), draw a gel that predicts the banding patterns that you will observe during the lab.
