H.W. Complete this worksheet that was passed out in class today: Osmotic Changes in Red Blood Cells Related to Plasma Contents
CH. 7 TEST MONDAY
Tuesday, October 29, 2013
10/29/13
1. Finish and review "Plasmolyze the Chargers" Lab
2. Notes: Facilitated diffusion and osmosis
H.W. Finish the "Plasmolyze the Chargers" lab analysis questions (the one with the anacharis plant)
Analysis:
AND Finish the Potato Lab Graph (this must be a line graph that graphs the class averages) (class average results can be found HERE)
CH. 7 TEST: MONDAY (FINAL DATE CHANGE)
2. Notes: Facilitated diffusion and osmosis
H.W. Finish the "Plasmolyze the Chargers" lab analysis questions (the one with the anacharis plant)
Analysis:
- For the cell that was in distilled water, describe how osmosis occurred. Describe the movement of water by discussing the solute concentration of the inside of the cell as compared to the outside environment. Be sure to use the terms: hypotonic, diffusion, turgid.
- For the cell that was in salt water, describe how osmosis occurred. Describe the movement of water by discussing the solute concentration of the inside of the cell as compared to the outside environment. Be sure to use the terms: hypertonic, diffusion, plasmolysis.
- Why do plant cells thrive (live best) in hypotonic environments?
- Why do plants die along roads that are salted during the winter time?
AND Finish the Potato Lab Graph (this must be a line graph that graphs the class averages) (class average results can be found HERE)
CH. 7 TEST: MONDAY (FINAL DATE CHANGE)

10/23/13
1. Fun with Cell Models Part I (pre-discussion)
2. Notes: Cell Transport: Diffusion
3. Fun with Cell Models Part II (post-discussion)
H.W. Complete the following conclusion question in the "conclusion" section of your Fun with Cell Models worksheet.
1. Using the results from your lab to support your answer, describe how the dialysis tubing is a semi-permeable barrier to the environment. Be sure to define what semi-permeable is. In addition, accurately describe the materials that could AND could not pass through the barrier and WHY they could or could not pass through the barrier. Finally, define what type of transport what responsible for the movement of the materials that you described as passing through the barrier.
Here is a short video showing what happened when you placed iodine on the outside of the cell .
